VIETNAM, A RETROSPECTIVE // EARLY WINTER 2017
- TRAVEL DIARY -
A van life attempt gone wrong landed us in the dead of winter in North Idaho without a vehicle or home. Call it the pursuit of an unconventional life.
After selling off all of our belongings and placing what was left in storage, the months of work on the project had not paid off. The thought of another day staying with family became a deficit to our mental health, so we did what any reasonable person would do and decided to book 2 months in Vietnam to “regroup.”
Vietnam was the perfect place to forget about our road-life failure while reclaiming a sense of adventure and spontaneity. The moment we landed in Saigon, we were met with such color, such a sense of immediacy, and passion, we were awakened and brought back to life. A slurp of the savory yet bright, herb packed pho while crouching on a plastic stool, and we didn’t remember what we were doing a week before. The flavor. The funk. The balance.
Navigating moto bike traffic, we could hardly remember our names, but we knew exactly where we were. Chasing waterfalls down unpaved washed out roads, we remembered the aim of wandering. And, we thought our wandering adventure not the biggest mishap after all. Some places you travel to remember, some places you go to forget.
